What is goodness? How do we recognise it? Is the UK today full of goodness?
Goodness as a value
When you try to define “goodness” what do you come up with?
I remembered old Hovis bread adverts!
So I did a Google search and found this:
Hovis introduces ‘Good Inside’ loaves
Hovis has tapped into government guidelines that the UK needs more fibre by launching its new Hovis Good Inside range.

Goodness in bread relates to good ingredients for nourishing a healthy body; making us “good” inside.
If we are good inside physically, does that make us good in other ways, too? Or is “goodness” more about how we behave outwardly from what we believe inwardly?
Recognising goodness
Is there a national quality or standard of goodness? What is “good” in the UK and where does it come from? Is it subjective or objective?
I did another Google search and found this in AI.
In the UK, “Goodness” can refer to several things, including a sustainable gift and hamper company called The Goodness Project, a food philosophy focused on healthy and sustainable eating, and even a music event series. It can also be used as a general term for kindness and positive attributes.
This is where our UK inheritance or heritage comes in. What has shaped the UK and its people over our history and still shows up today as goodness? Or have we lost a lot of goodness; kindness and positive attributes? Have we lost our inward belief in “goodness” and are we showing the consequences in outward behaviour? Are people today even calling bad things “good”?
Just read the news!
Bringing back goodness
If we have lost a lot of goodness in our nation, how then do we get it back?
Perhaps we need a really “good” government to lead us. Good laws to keep us on the straight and narrow path to goodness. Good justice to apply those laws and good law enforcement to give us a good sense of protection.
Can you see that today? Did we have it in the past?
How would you bring back goodness to a nation?
